Climate, environment and sustainability

Eberswalde has been a member of the Climate Alliance and active in climate protection since 1995. In December 2013, the integrated energy and climate protection concept was adopted, which provides the framework for the city's climate protection and adaptation activities.
To support this climate protection process, the city of Eberswalde has applied for funding from the Federal Ministry for the Environment for a climate protection manager as part of the National Climate Protection Initiative. The tasks of the climate protection manager include providing content-related and organisational support to the administration in the implementation of climate protection measures and measures to adapt to climate change.

After a three-year term, the climate protection management position was extended in autumn 2018 for a further two years until the end of 2020.

National Climate Protection Initiative

With the National Climate Initiative, the Federal Environment Ministry has been initiating and funding numerous projects that contribute to achieving climate protection targets since 2008. Its programmes and projects cover a broad spectrum of climate protection activities: From the development of long-term strategies to concrete assistance and investment-based funding measures. This diversity is a guarantee for good ideas. The National Climate Initiative helps to anchor climate protection on the ground. It benefits consumers as well as companies, local authorities and educational institutions.
