With the signing of the naming documents, the town of Eberswalde officially has a new 'flying ambassador' since 4 December 2012. Instead of the old "Eberswalde" Boeing 737-300, which was retired from the Lufthansa fleet, a modern Airbus A321 flies on European airways on behalf of the district town.

Lufthansa's Sales Director for East Germany, Martina Grönegres, and the mayor Friedhelm Boginski notarised the name transfer at a ceremony. The mayor expressed his satisfaction that Lufthansa intends to advertise the city with a modern Airbus in the future. "Perhaps this will arouse the interest of one or two travellers to visit Eberswalde," - said the mayor. For a city like Eberswalde, which is committed to sustainability and reducing emissions, it is also important that the 'Eberswalde' is much quieter than its predecessor and uses much less paraffin. Guests at the naming ceremony included the chairmen of the parliamentary groups of the Eberswalde town council and the children and teachers of the "Sputnik" kindergarten, who sang about flying, among other things.
